Photo of the Day: The Octopus

Hisashi has quite an eye for sea creatures. While playing on the beach with Kaede and friends the other day, he noticed a little something somersaulting across the sand. Closer inspection revealed it to be a wee octopus. We had a good look, and the kiddies got to (gently) feel the suction cups and watch … Continue reading Photo of the Day: The Octopus

Photo a Day: Trains in Retirement

An old-school Enoden line train car set up for exploring. This little car with wooden flooring sits by some dusty playing fields across from a popular Kamakura park. It's quite the attraction, too, when it's open to the public. The privilege of hopping aboard does come with a few rules, though, one of which is, … Continue reading Photo a Day: Trains in Retirement

Photo a Day: Kamakura Cosplay

These characters wandered past our front gate early Sunday morning, causing more than a bit of surprise. Our neighbour told us they were likely public relations cosplayers for the day's festival. When we got to the festival, sure enough, there they were, camped out under flapping Kamakura flags.

Photo of the Day: Find the Kite

Can you see it? The kites were having a field day swooping down on unsuspecting visitors and stealing their lunches at the festival last Sunday. One snatched a kebab from someone sitting behind us, but couldn't hold on while zooming sharply up to avoid collision. The kebab slammed into Kaede's back, causing much surprise. We … Continue reading Photo of the Day: Find the Kite

Photo of the Day: Helping Hands

It's festival season in Kamakura, with little goings-on happening all over the place. This past Sunday at the park by Yuigahama Beach, there were heaps of booths with activities, games, presentations, and, of course, food. One booth had a box of old-school toys in it, including some koma spinning tops. To play, you wrap a … Continue reading Photo of the Day: Helping Hands

Photo of the Day: Traveller From Abroad

After a typhoon, all sorts of trash is washed up onto the beach. Most of it is from Japan, but sometimes, there'll be an intrepid traveller from lands far, far away. This can is in Chinese, I believe, so Taiwan, Hong Kong or mainland China, I'm guessing. Just as an aside, seeing the huge amounts … Continue reading Photo of the Day: Traveller From Abroad
