Kamakura really seems to enjoy relationships with supreme beings. Of course, it's got centuries of temple and shrine history—which explains the myriad temples and shrines, but it also has a surprising number of churches—at least four in our area of town, and probably more further afield. This church is the oldest, I believe. It's United, … Continue reading Photo of the Day: Temples, Shrines and… Churches
Photo of the Day: Traveller From Abroad
After a typhoon, all sorts of trash is washed up onto the beach. Most of it is from Japan, but sometimes, there'll be an intrepid traveller from lands far, far away. This can is in Chinese, I believe, so Taiwan, Hong Kong or mainland China, I'm guessing. Just as an aside, seeing the huge amounts … Continue reading Photo of the Day: Traveller From Abroad
Photo of the Day: Striders
Not much to explain here, just water striders on lily pads. That is all.
Photo of the Day: Lily Pads
Lily pads in a pond at Hasedera. Lily pads just make me happy.
Photo of the Day: Misty Morning

Photo of the Day: Little Women
Within the larger Benten-Kutsu cave at Hasedera, there are one or two sub-caves so small you have to stoop to enter. Within the caves are hundreds of tiny figurines, all lined up.
Photo of the Day: Raked Garden
One of the gardens at Hasedera is a karesansui (raked pebble garden). It's a lovely, peaceful (despite the crowds) garden off to the side, with moss and a few boulders. The moss is misted from time to time, giving it a bit of a foggy, mysterious look, albeit briefly.
Photo of the Day: Gulp Gulp Gulp
Another day, another fish pond. This particular pond is at Hasedera, and is full of large koi. Most were happily swimming in circles, but one just kept opening his mouth wide and gulping.
