Amanawa Jinja is one of the little shrines that doesn’t get much attention. It might be quiet most days, but it sure knows how to party: it has one of the best small-scale bon festivals around, taking place in early September.
Amanawa Jinja, which enshrines Amaterasu, the sun goddess, is the oldest shrine in Kamakura.
