Photo of the Day: A Crabby Kind of Day

imageToday, the tide was low. Like really, really low. So low, that we could walk all the way out to the huge concrete tetrapods that are normally half covered in water.

And because we could, we did. And we searched for creatures and shells and anything, really.

Over the next few days, I’ll post more photos of what we found, but today’s post gets the prize for best find: a Shanghai hairy crab.

Hisashi somehow spotted this guy hiding in a bunch of wakame seaweed. He then went to work trying to catch it by getting it to pinch a twig. Since the crab was mightily ticked off by our presence—and super snappy as a result—this proved to be fairly easy.

Poor little fellow, he had no idea what he was getting into (namely Hisashi’s stomach). The Japanese take their seafood seriously…
