Photo of the Day: Baker’s Dozen

DSC_0194I feel a bit cheeky [I think that deserves an emoticon —> (>.<)] posting this photo, and not just because "a baker's dozen" is an exaggeration.

This is another photo from last summer’s mikoshi (float) battle festival on the Zaimokuza side of Yuigahama Beach. For those unfamiliar with Japanese festival culture, men often wear fundoshi, like sumo wrestlers. Some keep their happi coats (festival coats) long to cover their bums, and some wear boxer brief-style shorts instead, but there are still plenty of traditional festival celebrants out there.

This was a really neat festival to watch, and I will post more on it in the lead-up to this year’s battle.
