There are fun kites—the kind you fly on a windy day, and then there are these kites—scavenging nightmares that will steal the food right out of your hands (or mouths!).
And believe you me, they really don’t care if they accidentally take a bit of flesh off you, too. If you eat outdoors anywhere near the ocean in Kamakura, keep and eye out—or better yet, hide your food under a shawl, bag—anything!
These guys are truly terrifying. A friend had a melon pan stolen right out of her hand when we were sitting on the beach. Since then I refuse to eat anywhere outdoors around that area. XD

Oh yes, I feel that pain. I had a murasakiimo pastry stolen from me. I screamed and hit the ground. The other day Hisashi had fried chicken (and a bit of his hand) stolen. Scary stuff.

Yes! True predators. 😦
I just wish people would believe me and not think I’m exaggerating when I warn them about these cheeky birds though. 😛

Yar… That’s what I was thinking when the shopkeeper warned me. How right he was, though…
