Apparently, the water around our beach is full of these big (well, big for me) guys, but the other day, while SUP-ing, I finally saw one for the first time. Gotta say, I was a little freaked out.
Photo of the Day: Oya-ko SUP
The other day, Kaede came with me out on the paddleboard. "Oya" means "parent", and "ko" means "child", so, parent-child paddleboarding.
Photo of the Day: Blue Paddleboarding
The ocean around Yuigahama Beach is at its best in fall and spring. Beautiful blue sky, beautiful blue seas.
Photo of the Day: Beach Gazing
It's that time of year again! It's actually cool enough to go to the beach and have a play—without burning or getting heatstroke. We're thoroughly enjoying it.
Photo of the Day: Rising Above
Looking back from the first landing of the Amanawa Jinja staircase. To the side was a bon dance area, but my timing was off and they were on break. Too bad, as I love bon dances!
Photo of the Day: As You Like It
Okonomiyake—as-you-like-it pancakes—are a favourite festival food, though Hisashi is adamant that okonomiyake doesn't taste any good when eaten as street food. Still, it makes for a beautiful booth.

Photo of the Day: Post-Typhoon Rainbow
Today, a typhoon blew through. We were on the edge, so nothing too major, but still, we got a good deal of rain and wind. And, gloriously, a double rainbow at the end! The mini-rainbow didn't show up too well on film, and it's a bit blurry, but still. Pretty.
Photo of the Day: Dignified Gentleman
While walking down Yuigahama Dori, I crossed paths with this most dignified fellow in summer kimono (yukata) and walking stick. I couldn't help myself—I dawdled behind him and snuck a snapshot.
Photo of the Day: Summer Sparks
Summer fireworks and sparklers never get old. We had a few families stay the other night, and they all seemed to have the same idea—everyone had sparklers. In the end, it became a bit of a fireworks party. While I didn't get any photos of that night, Hisashi and Kaede had a mini-fireworks party this … Continue reading Photo of the Day: Summer Sparks
